You’ve probably heard about the penny tax. But do you actually know what it is, what it would pay for, or what exactly you’ll be asked to decide in November?

Let’s fix that. Join us for a special HerHaus pop-up with Greenville City Councilmember Dorothy Dowe for a candid, nonpartisan conversation about the City of Greenville’s Penny Tax Ballot Referendum.

Dorothy will break down what’s actually on the ballot, how we got here, and what would happen if the referendum passes. She’ll walk us through the history of penny tax referendums in Greenville County, explain how the City’s proposed 1% sales and use tax would work, and share examples from the more than 500 infrastructure projects currently included on the City’s project list—from roads and sidewalks to drainage, sewer infrastructure, fire stations, and public safety facilities.

She’ll also explain how the City referendum relates to the County penny tax referendum and, most importantly, leave plenty of time for your questions.

And because we have a City Councilmember in the room, we’re not stopping there. Dorothy will also give us a look at what’s happening across Greenville—what the City has accomplished in recent years, what’s coming next, and some of the issues shaping Greenville’s future.
